The Parable of the Good Samaritan

posted in: Uncategorized | 3

I love the parables that Jesus shared, especially the parable of the good Samaritan. “A parable is a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual story.” In the parable of the good Samaritan, Jesus is comparing those that know the law and those that follow the law in their lifestyle. We should love everyone and show compassion to everyone we come in contact with. We need to make time for others.

 1.  Read the parable of the good Samaritan: Luke 10: 25-37
The verses below are from the Holman Christian Standard Bible.
Just then an expert in the law stood up to test Him, saying, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” “What is written is the law?” He asked him. ” How do you read it?” He answered:
Love the lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.
“You answered correctly,” He told him. “Do this and you will live.” But wanting to justify himself, he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

Luke 10: 30

Jesus took up the question and said: “A man was going from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him, beat him, and fled, leaving him half dead.

Luke 10:31

A priest happened to be going down that road. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

Luke 10:32

In the same way, a Levite, when he arrived at the place and saw him, passed by the other side.

Luke 10:33-34

But a Samaritan on his journey came up to him, and when he saw the man, he had compassion . He went over to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on olive oil and wine.

Then he put him on his own animal brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

Luke 10:35

The next day he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said, “Take care of him. When I come back I’ll reimburse you for whatever extra you spend.’

Luke 10:36-37

“Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?” “The one who showed mercy to him,” he said. Then Jesus told him, “Go and do the same.”

2. Esther traced the outline of Eves body on a large sheet of paper and then covered it with bandages.

3.My children came up with a list of ways how we can help others:
* open doors for others
*pick up things for someone if they have dropped something
*donate clothes to those in need
*give water to homeless or those who look thirsty
*buy food for someone/donate food
*help others with yard work
*offer our seat to someone
* clean the home of someone in need
*Most importantly : share the Gospel with others

4. How can you help?
I went online www.yellowpages.com and typed in charities and then the city near me. Then I found the Children’s receiving home and called and asked if I could donate bows to them. You could always call and ask in which area you could help them. There are so many places to choose from and so many different ways you can help.

5.   We donated bows to a Children’s receiving home.
Children come to the children’s receiving home from their own homes, relatives, or foster homes. 80% come from their biological home. These children are placed there under a protective custody hold, by law enforcement, or children’s protective services (CPS). These children live at the children’s receiving home while their cases are being investigated and until they find another home for the child. So most of these children are scared because they have been taken away from their family and from the things that they are familiar with. Some of these children have witnessed many traumatic events. They have seen things that children should not. Some of the older children are there because they have caused trouble. We wanted to make something that would make the little girls smile. Each bow had a tag that said: you are smart, you are important, you are beautiful, and you are loved.

How to make a bow:

Cut a piece of material. The larger the piece is the larger the bow. The smaller the material, the smaller the bow will be.

Fold it .

Iron it.

Fold it again but the other way.

                                                                   Iron it.

Open it up again and put hot glue in the middle.

You will need a small piece of elastic ribbon.

Tie the elastic ribbon in the middle. Add a clip.

5. My friend taught me how to make these beautiful bows. She makes and sells them. Check her out on Instagram : emmas_little_boutique

Have fun 🙂

I love that you teach your kids how to be nice people and to care about others. And your orange bow is adorable.
