Fun in Orlando

“Mass production required mass consumption, and at the turn of the twentieth century most Americans considered it both unnatural and unwise to buy things they didn’t actually need. Mandatory schooling was a godsend on that count. School didn’t have to train kids in any direct sense to think they should consume nonstop, because it did something even better: it encouraged them not to think at all. And that left them sitting ducks for another great invention of the modern era- marketing.

Now, you needn’t have studied marketing to know that there are two types of people who can always be convinced to consume more than they need to: addicts and children.

School has done a pretty good job of turning our children into addicts, but a spectacular job of turning our children into children. Again, this is no accident.

Theorists from Plato to Rousseau to our own Dr. Inglis knew that if children could be cloistered with other children, stripped of responsibility and independence, encouraged to develop only the trivializing emotions of greed, envy, jealousy, and fear, they would grow older but never truly grow up.” – John Taylor Gatto

For years I did not know how to grow up. When I only had Peter and Esther I got all three of us new outfits for every church service. I didn’t know that this was the result of school. My kids on the other hand have never been to school and when I tell them that they need new clothes they look puzzled because they feel like they don’t need anymore. I have had to break a lot of old habits.

Kennedy Space Center

Kennedy Space Center is one place you should go to if you haven’t. It’s a very educational place and is perfect for all who are looking for a great experience. There are plenty of full space ships and even a piece of the moon.

Kennedy Space Center had a system for video viewing that is pure genius. They have three viewing rooms for each video which allows for improvement through surroundings and less wait time for everyone. The bus rides did not waste time and gave us plenty of information.

Wonder Works Orlando

Wonder Works Orlando is a interesting amusement park. Unlike most it is completely dedicated to being educational. From hurricane experiences to astronaut training they have plenty to offer. Wonder Works Orlando is a great option if your trying to get away from heat or rain.

Laying on needles was a very unique experience.

Disney’s Boardwalk

On the day we went to Disney World there were no fireworks that evening. However, we really wanted to see fireworks with our son. Disney’s Boardwalk is a quiet and great place to enjoy some fireworks at. Before the fireworks started we watched a performer perform a magic show. It was a great way to end a beautiful day.

Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World is one of the most famous amusement parks in the world. And it indeed is better than most amusement parks. Maybe the reason for its popularity is because of marketing or simply word of mouth. Whatever the reason is, this is the place that established Orlando as a city for amusement parks.

To be honest with you, my husband and I are not into crowded amusement parks. The lines are way too long for us. But we knew that our son would love Walt Disney World. We did have such an amazing time. I really have a hard time containing my excitement while on different rollercoasters.

The Holy Land Experience

The Holy Land is among the most interesting and rare type of amusement parks, a biblical amusement park. This amusement park is full of buildings that replicate Jerusalem. The main attraction though are the acts that run though out the day. What we loved most about this amusement park is that the actors aren’t just actors. They love the Lord. Between the shows “Jesus” talks to children about biblical things and prays for those who have a prayer request. It is so touching and beautiful to see. After one show, “Jesus” even hugs the audience. The look on children’s faces is priceless.
