Road Trip on the Gulf Coast

posted in: Uncategorized | 0

When traveling weather really can affect how your day will play out. Often times we plan to do one thing before we arrive and have to change our plans because the weather does not permit us to do it. We have also missed out on some amazing locations due to weather. There is only so much we can do when the weather isn’t so nice. We love outdoor adventures far more than indoors but a trip can still be amazing even if the weather isn’t in our favor. Indoor activities such as museums are probably the best choices. Also, check what time it won’t be raining and that is the time you want to get out there. We only had one hour to enjoy the beach before a red beach warning flag was put out warning people not to be out there. Before you travel look up different things in the area that you would like to do and the times and days they are opened. Take that list with you so that you can make different choices without losing so much time.

Fancy Camps

If you have been following us for a while then you know how much we love glamping because we get to be next to nature while sleeping on a comfortable bed. This tent was so beautiful with a fire pit, picnic table, and lights outside. Sadly due to the weather we weren’t able to enjoy it. There was lots of privacy as well. Inside the tents there are heating and cooling units so that you can feel comfortable. We really appreciated the outlets because we always have so many different things to charge.

We love that the fancy camp is actually located in state parks. There are two state parks to choose from : Topsail Hill State Park or Grayton Beach State Park.

Visit Fancy Camps for more information.

Topsail Hill State Park

We only got one day at the beach while on our Florida trip. We did not understand when others raved about how amazing Florida beaches really are until we experienced it ourselves. We actually planned on spending two days on the beach but the weather did not permit us to. There are 3 miles of beach access from this park. A tram ride can take you to the beach or you can take a short walk to the beach. The tram rides are free. The sand is soft and white. You can camp here. You can also stay at one of the fancy camps here. There are showers and bathrooms nearby. We did not explore much because of the weather but we plan to come back in the near future.

Ripley’s Believe It or Not!

Ripley’s Believe It Or Not has plenty of strange things to present. From animals with multiple heads to doors that open in a strange way. And besides the exhibition they also offer a 4D game theater, laser tag, and a station where you can mold wax using the shape of your hand. This place has plenty of things to do and is especially a place to go to on a rainy day. We had such a great time here. It was full of laughter.

USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park

The USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park has plenty of things to show. From tanks to small ships and personnel belongings of soldiers. It is a very informative place to visit and is a great place to visit when in the area.

Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum

Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum is a extremely informative place to visit. They give you information on boats and their history and on the seafood industries structure and procedures. If you love shrimp and want to learn more about how shrimp is collected and how to cook shrimp then you’ll find this museum great. They also have a room that dwells on hurricanes and an art gallery. We have never experienced a hurricane in California so this part of the museum was very interesting to us.
