Spring in Jefferson State

Spring is my favorite season. I love all the new life. I love the weather. The blooming flowers and green grass make me happy. Spring just has a way of helping me become motivated and excited about life.

Susanville Ranch Park

You have twenty nine miles of trail to choose from here. You can hike, ride your bike, or ride your horse. Dogs are welcome here. Depending on which trail you choose, you will find benches to sit at. There is plenty of shady areas here as well as open sunny areas. If you come early in the spring you might see snow here. We saw large tracks that looked like mountain lion tracks. We definitely will be back to this park to explore more of the trails. The views from the top are gorgeous here.

Located at 485-493 Cherry Terrace, Susanville,  CA 96130.

Deer Creek

We came here for mother’s day. It is such a beautiful place. The ground is covered in dandelion flowers during the first weeks of spring. Perfect opportunity to take off your shoes and walk the soft grass. You can fish here. We tried but had no luck. It is located off Highway 32 and near Highway 36. You’ll want to park near the highway and walk down. It is not a far walk.

Eagle Lake: Christie Day Use Area

When you come here during the week day you’ll most likely be the only one here. We had the whole place to ourselves. It is pretty magical here. The mountains and the scenery here are spectacular. We saw a variety of birds here. Our girls swam but where we were at it wasn’t very deep. The water isn’t clear but if you want to cool off and your a kid you won’t care.

Lassen Volcanic National Park: Manzanita Lake

This lake is always beautiful but during the early spring you will find it still frozen and the ground nearby covered in snow. You can bring chairs here and enjoy lunch. You can also have a snow ball fight here. There are not too many places that are covered in snow during the spring months so if you aren’t ready for winter to be over, you’ll enjoy it here. If you are feeling adventurous you can take the manzanita lake loop trail which is a 1.8 mile hike.

Frenchman Lake

We came here on a weekend and it was extremely busy and packed. It is quite a walk to get to the waters. We didn’t see people swim here.  Other’s were mostly fishing or canoeing on this lake. You can fish here for brown bullheads, rainbow trout,  brown trout, and smallmouth bass.

There are plenty of picnic tables to choose from but the picnic tables aren’t very close to the water.
