“As humans, we are wired for challenge, so if we don’t challenge ourselves, we’ll find petty drama and arguments to keep us busy.” – Scott Hamilton

Are you challenging yourself? Are you doing something that excites you but at the same time is hard?

During this trip we were sick. We were sick for over a week. On top of being sick the weather wasn’t in our favor and it was actually raining and cold. If you have ever been sick you know that all you want is to be warm and laying in your comfortable bed. You dream about a warm bath but all you can take are showers. You want to drink something warm but to get that drink you have to go outside and warm up a kettle on the fire or propane stove.

But this is life. A life we have chosen. This excites us. It makes us feel alive to travel and see new places. We love experiencing new things as a family.

Sickness or weather is not something you can not predict. Too often when we plan our trip out the weather forecast says it will be sunny and warm but when we get there a cold front comes and everything is different.

You have to be able to just roll with the punches as well as bring a variety of clothes with you.

Traveling as a family can be hard. Especially, when they are little. I remember exploring Banff, Canada during the day with my family many years ago. Hiking, changing diapers, nursing, homeschooling, putting them to bed and then getting on my computer to take an on-line test for a college class I was taking. It was hard and it was challenging but I had goals and I didn’t want to miss out on my life with my children.

But traveling as a family is possible. It is rewarding. Start them young and it will only get easier as they get older. Stop making the excuse that your child is not letting you travel. Just say that you don’t want to travel with a baby.

Remember that if you value something, you will make it possible.

Cama Beach State Park

Cama Beach State Park is a great place to spent a couple days and nights at. This park prides itself in being a place where you can walk around without having to worry about vehicles. When staying here you can easily go outside and walk around the beach. The view is stunning. There is also a basketball area and a volleyball court. It is a very family friendly park. The only thing which you should be aware of is that there are buses that help transport luggage to your cabin. They close at 5pm so if you have coolers you want to take with you to your cabins then you’ll want to arrive before 5pm. The parking lot isn’t that far so if you do forget something small it is only a short stroll to your vehicle.

Since we came at the wrong time: it was cold and raining, we were not able to rent a boat. But during good weather you can rent a boat, go fishing, crabbing, and even swimming.

Iverson Trail Preserve

Iverson Trail Preserve really shows the potential beauty of low tide within the bay. In fact it was such a low tide that if we had brought boots we could have simply walked in the water. It was definitely a wonderful sight to see and was very relaxing. To get to this location you have to walk a short distance and get past an interesting amount of trees. To clarify these trees were not standing. We recommend you arrive here at low tide and bring rubber boots.

Tillicum Beach County Park

This is a very small park. There are neighbors on both sides of the park and parking is limited. You would want to come here during low tides. The great thing about this park is that you have beach access.

Canopy Tours N. W

This ziplining experience will never be forgotten because it was Elizabeth’s first time ever ziplining and something like that is remembered and celebrated forever. I’ve done a canopy tour before so this experience was more fun and exciting than scary for me.

Canopy Tours NW was a type of experience we have never experienced when it comes to zip lines. The zip lining itself is similar to how it usually is but the journey was what was very different. The thing is after every 2 times we zipped we walk to zip more. There is also a snack that is complimentary along the way. When we came they had lavender tea and s’mores. Roasting s’mores on a cold day was such a treat.

Eve was not able to join us because she was under 65 pounds so my husband stayed with Eve.

What makes canopy tours unique is that your not just ziplining anywhere but here you go platform to platform, from tree to tree.

English Boom Historic Park

English Boom Historical Park was a very relaxing place to visit. Definitely a easy place to walk in and mostly due to the dock at first. The beach has rocks and sand in different areas which was refreshing. There was also a lot of large pieces of wood in the ocean which after some research became very interesting. This area once had a successful lumber industry. In the 1920s and 1930s a company called The English Lumber Company was cutting wood in the area and used what is now this park to transport wood on the ocean. The business uses of this land is quite fascinating and the hints to this past is so minor. This is a wonderful example of how time simply goes on and how everything of the past has left a mark but is not nearly as relevant as the present.
