Coronado

When your in Sothern California you can be on two different time zones, vacation wise we mean. You can be on California time zone (Pacific Standard Time) in San Diego but once you cross the Coronado Bridge to Coronado you’ll be on Island time. You sure get the feeling that your off the main land once your in Coronado. On one side of the Island you see the bay and the San Diego skyline. While on the other side you will see the ocean stretching for miles and miles into the distance. And the only choice you will be confronted with is which view you’d rather have. All you have to do to get a change of scenery is drive a few miles away.

Coronado means “the crowned one”. It used to be a training site for the U.S Navy Seals.

I picked up Resisting Happiness by Matthew Kelly at the thrift store a few weeks ago and I am loving all the wisdom Matthew Kelly shares. “As Christians we are called to transform every activity in our lives into a prayer. This is how we become the-best-version-of-ourselves and live holy lives.” I have tried his advice and it is making such a big difference in my life. As I clean my kitchen, I pray for my sweet mother who had spent so many hours cooking and cleaning for my sisters and I. My mother always made incredible homemade food for us and I start to cry. I clean my kitchen with so much love. Cleaning the kitchen no longer feels like a burden but instead it is a big blessing. When I make my bed I pray for my husband and our relationship. When I text a person I say a prayer for them. As I play basketball with my kids I pray that I would be present and thank God for blessing me with amazing children. I offered each task that I did to God as a prayer for a specific person. I finally understood what “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17) is all about and it made such a difference in my day.

Glorietta Bay Inn

It is hard to find a better place to stay in while exploring Coronado Island because it is only one block from everything you’ll need or want to do. The location is just perfect. In the two nights that we stayed here not once did we have to look for parking because they have a private lot. Yet we were steps away from the best that Coronado had to offer. We stayed in the Coronado Room 101 which is located on the second floor of the mansion. We stayed in one of the eleven suites in the original Mansion. We loved walking up the marble staircase to our room. The early 20th century Inn was built in 1906 and it is well preserve with tall ceilings, massive crown moldings, and tall wooden French style windows that open out letting plenty of light in to light up the room just right. There is so much history to this building. There is also a skylight in the bathroom that lets in more light as well as ventilates the bathroom from steam of the shower the old fashion way. Here you’ll really feel like you are a guest in a Mansion as cookies and milk is brought to you as a evening snack. Breakfast is complimentary and you can have it brought up to you in the morning. They have coffee from Café Motto available all day long. The 800- square foot Music Room is so stunning. The beds are so comfortable. To be honest with you one of the most comfortable beds we’ve slept in.

Centennial Park

At this park you will probably get the best views of San Diego’s waterfront and downtown. There is just something beautiful about skyline views. The Bayshore Bikeway passes through here so if you brought a bike with you or you want to take a morning stroll this is a perfect place to get in some morning exercise.

Central Beach

This 1.5 mile long beach is by far one of the most well known beaches on the Island. Can you believe that Marilyn Monroe filmed Some Like it Hot here? On the other side of the beach is the stunning Hotel del Coronado where Marilyn Monroe liked to stay. It is a great place to walk, run, swim, have a picnic at, and soak in all the ocean breeze and sun as you possibly can. During low tide you can enjoy the tide pools here.

The Gondola Company

We experienced  a very pleasant and smooth cruise through the canals of Colorado Cays. The gondola cruise takes you through multiple channels, surrounded by beautiful houses, and big yachts. I loved having a drink in one hand (sparkling apple cider), my handsome husband by my side, and this enormous feeling of being blessed to have an amazing companion to sail through the waters of life with. I’m just one lucky girl, if I may say so, to be happily married for sixteen years. We couldn’t make it to Venice but this is one special and romantic experience.

Silver Strand State Beach

This is one wonderful beach to watch the sunset at. As you stand and watch the sun go down and you look to the left you will see Tijuana, Mexico on the hills with the sunset shining off their windows. When you look to the right you will see Cabrillo National Monument. But when you look straight ahead of you, you’ll see the sun sinking into the ocean and there isn’t a better way to end the day then this way.

Thank you Glorietta Bay Inn and The Gondola Company for hosting our stay.

Thank you for reading our post. We share a new post every Tuesday and Thursday at 8pm.

It looks like you had an amazing time. You both look so relaxed and happy in the pics. I’ve never heard of Coronado Island, I suppose that’s not surprising since I love in South Africa 😀 but I’ll be putting it on my Wishlist pin board. Those sunsets are just wow and the gondola cruise sounds really cool.

Coronado was one of our favorite places to visit when we lived in San Diego. The food, the beaches, the little village of shops and the scenic walks/views are amazing.

It’s a shame I live so close and have traveled to San Diego so many times and haven’t gone to this spot. Thanks for sharing. So beautiful!
