North Oregon Coast

We love first time experiences and while we were exploring North Oregon Coast we tried collecting mussels, cleaning them, and then cooking them. We also experienced the luxury of driving on the beach. How convenient is that? We didn’t have to grab all our things and drag them to the beach because all our things were right next to us the whole time in the car.

Oh I still remember the first time my husband asked me to pray. It was after we were married and I was so upset. I was so uncomfortable with the idea of anyone hearing me pray. But I’m so glad I did that day because since then we have always taken turns praying. We usually have our youngest to oldest take turns praying each night. I never want my children to be afraid to pray for others. Prayer is so powerful. Recently we all took turns praying for each person in our family. It was a very long prayer but we all smiled when those we love thanked God for us. Prayer brings us closer to God and as a family. Teach your children to pray at a young age. It makes all of the difference.

Tillamook Cheese Factory

The well known Tillamook cheese company I’m sure you have tried or heard of sort of puts the town on the map. This is a great place to stop for breakfast or lunch. They have killer grill cheese sandwiches and being married to a guy who is a sucker for grilled cheese you know he wont want to miss this stop. After all the great grill cheese places he has dragged us to he gives this place a two thumbs up. You can do some cheese tasting here as well as learn about how cheese is made and how they care for their cows.

Located at 4175 US-101, Tillamook, OR 97141.

Blue Heron Cheese

We love brie cheese so much and the Blue Heron Cheese is right next to Tillamook so we had to try their brie cheese as well as many of the dips, jams, and sauces they offer.

Located at 2001 Blue Heron Rd. Tillamook, OR 97141.

Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad

Most of the views you get from the train you can get from the car because the train track follows the road anyways but there is something different about seeing it from a train which getting slowly pulled by a historic locomotive.ย  We loved that we were able to relax and not worry about the road or about the other cars driving near us. Moving slowly and looking out the window while drinking coffee and taking to my son about comic books is always a day well spent. This short train ride made us want to plan a long train vacation.

Located at 402 American Ave. Garibaldi, OR 97118.

Indian Beach

Due to the incredible low tides we came here first to see what only mermaids and fish get to see. We were not disappointed because many of the rocks that usually get beat up by the tides were completely opened and were covered with cool living sea creatures. Some of these rocks were taller than us so we did not have to bend down in many places. We came at the right time and we were able to walk all the way to the sea arches. This was our favorite beach in Oregon during this trip. It was magical and far more exciting than we had ever hoped for.

Beach to Fork : Mussels

You can not get any fresher seafood then the one you catch yourself. We decided to have some fresh mussels for lunch the following day and came back to Indian Beach during low tides. We collected around fifty mussels and made drunken mussels. Make sure you get a proper shellfish license before collecting any. It is well worth the money. We got to experience collecting them, cleaning them, cooking them, and then finally eating them. Sure this was probably the longest time we spent on preparing a lunch meal but we were so glad we did.

Ecola Point

Ecola point is near Indian Beach. we drove here to get a stunning view of Canyon Beach below.

Pacific Coast Scenic Byway near Manzanita

We tend to always stop by all the scenic lookouts because with little or no effort the view is almost always breathtaking.

Del-Rey Beach

This was the first beach ever where we had our first drive through to the beach experience. In California we were never able to drive right up to the beach so you can just imagine our excitement. We brought firewood and claimed a spot that was not too close to the water. There was a twenty five miles per hour sign. You won’t want to pass this beach up so find your perfect parking space, get your chairs out, start a fire, and enjoy hours of relaxation. That’s exactly what we did. We also brought a Frisbee with us. The sky was so beautiful.

Haystack Rock

Hay Stack Rock Beach is by far Oregon’s most recognized beach. It is probably the most photographed as well. This beach is pretty crowded but the closer you get to the rock the less people there are. It is a bit of a walk to get to the rock so by the time you get to the rock you pretty much have it all to yourself.

This trip look like a lot of fun! I like what you shared in the beginning about teaching your kids to pray from an early age. I agree. Although my oldest is only 2 I pray with her every night. The next step is we’ll be praying together.

I also found your beach pictures very fascinating. Beautiful family!
