Southern Oregon Trip

“Public information has more impact than private information. People care more about what other people know about them than what they know about themselves. ”  Willpower by Roy F. Baumeister & John Tierney

People often tell influencers that they are inspiring. But what many might not realize is that they are the ones who inspire influencers to be the best version of themselves.

This can be one of the positive things about social media.

When you set a goal and you share your progress with family, friends, or on social media, you are more likely to complete that goal. Oftentimes,  you do better than you thought you would.

I record the amount of miles and time we spend outdoors using an app known as Runkeeper.

I also write down all the books I read.

By keeping track of these two things I actually can see how well I’m doing and am more motivated to spend more time outdoors and to read more books.

As soon as you cross California/Oregon border on Highway 5 and start descending, the beautiful vistas that open up to you are just astonishing. This is probably one of our treasured parts of the state but unfortunately on most of our trips up north we are just driving through. However on this trip we decided to spend a weekend here and explore Jackson county a little more.

Lithia artisans Market Ashland, OR:

We take pleasure in exploring local markets. It doesn’t matter if it is a farmers market or an art market we feel it is one of the best ways to get a feel and taste of what the area is all about. On our previous visits to Ashland and during the times that we were passing through this beautiful city, we were never here on a Saturday but we have always wanted to check out the Lithia Artisans Market and see what local artists have to offer. There are around forty different venders here for you to check out and support.

Howard Prairie Lake

Howard Prairie Lake is a lake that came into existence via the 100 foot tall dam known as Howard Prarie Dam. We decided to explore it by kayaking and we knew that we couldn’t get around the 1,990 acres of water here so we decided to launch near the islands. There are 3 islands here which you can explore if you have a water craft. This lake has been around since 1958 and since then they have added docks to launch and park boats for your convenience. We enjoyed our time here and if we ever return we’ll likely go fishing since we ran into many fisherman who were coming back with full limits.

Willow-Witt Ranch Camp:

This is not our first time glamping (staying in a wall tent) but what surprised us the most about this campground is not how beautiful the setting was but the comfortability of the campsite set up. As you park you see the bathhouse and the kitchen house. Most of the sites we have stayed at do not have a common kitchen. Which means you have to bring your own cooking equipment and utensils. This is not the case at Willow-Witt Ranch Camp. In the kitchen house you will find everything that you need. You’ll even find coolers if you forgot to bring your own. The bathhouse has hot running water and flushing toilets. Towels are included as well. But if you would like to take a shower with a view of a meadow there are outdoor showers with hot water for you to enjoy as well. Inside our wall tent there were two beds completely made with white linen and comforters. Just like you would expect in a hotel room. There was a wood burning stove completely prepped and ready for use with extra wood stacked on the side if you happen to need more. All we had to do was simply start the fire.

Willow-Witt Ranch Farm/Store

This ranch sits on 445 acres. It is so stunning here. You’ll want to stay here for a while. The owners Suzanne Willow and Lanita Witt have years of knowledge due to the fact that they have restored a working forest and wetland.

This farm has pack goats. I never knew that goats could carry your things for you. You can actually schedule a pack goat hiking experience. The farm is open daily from 11:00am-5:00pm. It is a self guided tour. We went in the morning and got a special guided tour. You can call to request a guided tour. We learned so much about farm life. We collected chicken eggs and watched goats get milked.

Rogue Jet Boat Adventure:

This was our first Jet Boat Experience. We were not sure what to expect when we got to the meeting place: Touvelle State Park. As we started going up the river to rattlesnake bar, the boat began to speed up and did a sudden stop and we saw waves of water going above our heads on both sides of the boat. At this our daughter said, “This is just like when Moses parted the Red Sea.” I could see our other daughter grip the handle bars as hard as she could. We then sped up again and started gliding on top of the river.
The boat was cutting from one bank to another and even did an entire spin until it came to a halt. After this our daughter released the handle bars a bit and started enjoying it as she felt as if she was on a wild rollercoaster ride.

We had an amazing experience. Got wet, learned about Rogue River history and the surrounding area. We would highly recommend that you have Rogue Jet Boat Adventure on the top of your bucket list when you visit Southern Oregon.

They are located just out of the Central Point/ Medford area under the Table Rocks. They offer tours four times daily during the months of April through September.
