Weekend in Shenandoah Valley

“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” – Thomas A. Edison

The thing is many of us might see successful people and we probably do not see all the hard work that they had to put in to get to where they are at. I think that opportunity is also lost when people follow their emotions. At least this has been so true for me. I had started a goal or a new project and instead of being persistent, I followed my emotions. The times when I did not follow my emotions I have been truly blessed.

My husband is such an incredible example of someone who doesn’t follow his emotions. He is my inspiration.

Lets be honest, most of us don’t want to work. We don’t want to workout. We don’t want to have schedules or routines. Emotions get in our way of accomplishing what we really hope to accomplish. It is easier to be lazy. It is easier to show up and just do what we need to instead of giving our very best.

After I read Finish First by Scott Hamilton I became determined to change and to stop letting my emotions get in my way.

Do you follow your emotions?

Shenandoah Valley is the wine region of Amador county.

For us it is one of our favorite wine areas in California. One of the main reasons why is because it is not crowded. This is the place that if you show up during week days you might have the tasting rooms all to your self. Also, the views here are spectacular because even though it is called Shenandoah Valley this is not your flat land country. Some of these vineyards have tasting rooms on top of the hill with 360 degrees views.

Amador Flower Farm

Our visit to the flower farm was before its peak season. Because of that we were not able to see all the flowers in bloom. But never the less there is a season for every flower. So we got to see the flowers that bloom in early spring. The one that impressed us the most is the Easter Lily. Easter Lily is native to Taiwan and Japan with the originally name being Teppoyuri which comes from the Japanese language. It is not very cat friendly because this plant is very toxic to cats. The flowering season goes from April to June.

Shenandoah Valley Museum at Sobon Estate

If your interested in the history of the area Shenandoah Valley museum at Sobon Estate is a great place to start. Here at the museum you can see the roots of the vine region before it developed in to what it is today.

Located at 14430 Shenandoah Rd, Plymouth, CA 95669.

The Kitchen at Helwig Winery

If all of this exploration made you work out an appetite do not worry because it is easy to find a table with a view here. On this trip we visited the kitchen at Helwig winery. We were very impressed with all of the different outdoor sitting areas with views of Shenandoah Valley. We picked a table that had a view of the vineyard, pond, and hills which we enjoyed. We ordered a cauliflower wrap, a beef salad, and fried cauliflower.

Terre Rouge and Easton Wines

No visit to Shenandoah Valley is complete until you do some wine tasting. Even though, there is lots of choices of wine tasting rooms to visit we decided to visit one of the smaller ones. Where we did get the tasting room all to ourselves and got to try everything on the menu and more. We enjoyed the 2009 Easton Late Harvest Obscura (Fiddletown), 2016 TERRE ROUGH Viognier (Fiddletown), and 2009 Terre Rouge Syrah (high slopes, sierra foothills).

Located at 10801 Dickson Rd, Plymouth, CA 95669.

Amador Harvest Inn

When you stay here you really get a feeling that your out in the country. From the balcony of our Chardonnay Room we got to grape vines, one of the two ponds that they have on the property, and all the ducks and geese that made this pond their home. As we walked the property there is a well developed short trail on the levee between the two ponds from which you can get to see all of the wild life in and around the pounds. There is a cool old rustic barn that makes you feel that your out in the country. After a good night sleep we got to enjoy a tasty hot breakfast on our patio overlooking the pond.

If you love bird watching then you’ll really enjoy staying at this inn. The morning that we were here we found a humming bird sitting on the ground under the bird feeder. We thought that it would fly away from us the closer that we came to it but it did not move. His tail wings were wet and stuck to the cement. I picked him up and poured some water on his sticky feathers. Then I dried them off with a paper towel. I then put his beak in the feeder and waited a few minutes. Then we set him where the sun was shining so that he could warm up. He wasn’t very active. We waited for an hour and then when the innkeeper and I went back to try to feed him again and as we were picking him up he flew away to a tree. We were so excited. It was a neat experience to be apart of. If you have been following us for a while you know that I love hummingbirds so much. I always try to capture them on camera and to be able to bring one back to health was pure magic.
